Air Purifiers
If you have read my views on water you have an idea about how important I regard water to be. It is the second most essential substance we need in order to live. The first most important is air.
Clean, fresh air should be our birthright. The reality is that today we all live in a very polluted world. Whether indoors or out, in cities or rural settings, we can no longer depend on our air quality to be conducive to good health.
I reported in The Health Gazette in 2006 on a Harvard study that showed people live longer given better air quality. The study was published in the March 15 issue of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. The study found an average of three percent fewer people died for every reduction of one µg/m3 in the average levels of PM2.5 fine particulate matter, defined as having a diameter of 2.5 microns or less -- narrower than the width of a human hair. This decreased death rate translates into approximately saving 75,000 people per year in the U.S. so this is not an insignificant finding.
A report from the National Academies' National Research Council in 2006 indicated that a better approach is needed by the EPA to achieving healthy air. While it is very important that the 'big picture' be examined and improved, it is also very important that individuals take action to ensure they spend as much time as possible in environments with clean, healthy air.
TopControl Your Own Air
So let me ask you, what do you currently do to ensure your life-giving air supply is improving your health rather than undermining it? Sorry to put you on the spot but it's an important question.
It isn't wise any more to just know about the problem. It is time to explore and implement suitable solutions. In this case, even a partial solution could make a huge difference to your health.
For instance, think of the hours you spend at home each day, including the time you sleep. That's one controllable environment where you could be ensuring toxins and threats are eliminated from your air.
What about working or employment hours? If you work in an office you may again have a quite controllable environment. Even if you spend most of your time traveling around in a car, your air quality there too can be greatly improved.
Ensuring that the air you and your family are exposed to each day, or for long controllable periods of most days, is a worthwhile action to take. Even if only one significant area where you spend large numbers of hours each day is providing you with clean, healthy air, it can make a big difference to your overall wellbeing.
Cleaning air is actually a pretty sophisticated task. Fortunately it can be as simple for consumers as placing a small device in their home or office or vehicle and switching it on. You can leave the intricacies of the technology to the biomedical technologists and engineers.
